Christmas is no small matter. It's full of promise, wonder, and mystery. Right from the very beginning. I'm always awed at the thought of Christ's coming. Inhabiting earth in the lowliest of conditions for us, our Immanuel. He came to walk life with us, to be our example, to show us how to live, and to give us life. On that first Christmas day Peace on earth came, and it truly was a Holy night. It was Joy to the world, and still is.
I was also thinking about obedience this Christmas. It's continually spread throughout the entire story. At every proclamation, at every turn of events. First, of course, you have Mary who believed what the angel had to say and didn't try to fight it. Then, there's Joseph who must have been in great despair and turmoil, but he too heeded the angel's statements. What would have happened if they hadn't been obedient? Even though those are the main and significant characters, there are many more. Like the wise men. Could you imagine searching for a baby for TWO WHOLE YEARS??! That's crazy talk. Every day they continued to follow that star. They could have easily given up, I probably would have. But they were eager to worship the Messiah. Just like the shepherds- I never read anywhere that some of them stayed behind to watch their flocks. Nor does it sound like they waited until it was light. They followed in obedience, promptly. I imagine excitedly. God blesses obedience. Will we follow? Will we listen to what He has to say? Today He calls many different people to Himself. It doesn't matter who you are, He's got good news for you.

...“Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." -Luke 2:10-11
