No Doubt
Disclaimer: this post has nothing to do with new years. But, I'll probably sum it up in a way that sounds like I planned to make you contemplate your life, or the year ahead.
"Forgive me for doubting you." "No, it's fine. I would have doubted me too." Though this quote comes from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and makes perfect sense and even adds a bit of humor in context, it is too often how we feel about ourselves. We are quick to doubt our abilities, strengths, creativity, ideas, dreams, and talents. Before we've even started, we decide we can't. We're not good enough, there's somebody else who could do it so much better, we need more time, more experience...there's always something holding us back. Instead of stepping out, we doubt. Instead of confidence, uncertainty. Instead of trying, a pity party. Instead of faith, fear. Fear of failure, fear of achievement, fear of decisions, fear of what others will think. We have fear that somehow we weren't equipped properly for this crazy thing called life. That somehow we are just not made to succeed. That somehow all these great people have so many talents. And I. Have. None. Well, let me tell you: That. Is. A. Lie.
It's time to let yourself get away from...yourself. Most the time you are what is holding you back. These notions you've let build up, until they seem to great to conquer. It's also possible you've accepted lies spoken to you by those around you. Maybe even lies that were meant to keep you safe from harm, but nonetheless, lies. Don't let yourself live wrapped in bubble wrap. Yes, it seems easy- maybe even fun- for a time, but really, who actually wants to live like that? It slows you down, makes you less productive, keeps you from a whole lot.
It's about time to live with confidence. Ready for your abilities to be used. To not dismiss dreams just because they seem too large. To step out in faith, ready for adventure. Looking to your Creator to lead you wherever He sees fit. Wherever He sees fit.
I assure you that if you are willing to let go and let God, your life will be full of wild things that you never thought possible. Way beyond your own capabilities. Start the adventure today.
I'm told the definition of insanity is trying the same thing and expecting different results. However, maybe just as insane is to give up after just one try. We can't expect to be perfect on our own. We make mistakes and miserably fail, sometimes daily. But I know Someone who can help; He doesn't give up on us.
It's time to throw doubt out, along with that bubble wrap that's been hanging around for far too long. Life's a journey, and it's about to get real exciting.
